New DJ Mix: Melancoholic Vol 2

Posted By: Shagz
Date:

Been a while since I've posted anything to the site, mostly 'cuz I've been busy with real life, work and all the festivals and concerts that blow through Toronto every summer.

But...just 'cuz I've been busy doesn't mean I haven't been at work! For your listening pleasure, I present to you Melancoholic Vol 2, a journey through moody tech- and prog-sounds to the sunny side of vocal house. Not quite the same as its predecessor in sound and texture, but it came from the same source.

Get it or stream it and let me know what you think!

hey stephen!

u´ve got talent...but then again we already knew that about u, didn´t we??! u asked 4 it, u got it...had a very close listen to ur mix and have a few comments...

the 1st samantha james track is stylistically similar to ¨everything but the girl´s¨ trip hop period so u´ve (ahem!) stuck a chord here with me. loooooooove the strings in the middle of les violons ivres. so very aptly named. and the way the arpeggios pan right into a wash of reverb does it for me. am not a big vocal hook grrrl but there´s something about ¨divine love¨that keeps me from hitting the ff button. the booty luv ¨shine¨ track is a good sweaty club tune to shake ur booty 2.

must say though i´m not a big fan of sprechen type house when it sounds too much like a white house speech (inflection-wise) or billy graham proselytizing, so i find myself giving track 11 (grant nelson) the thumbs-down.

really like the flanged section in ¨Cookys¨...great build-up. and nice touch for the finale: upbeat, with a steady sense of reaching for the climax.

overall, perfectly seamless transitions but we wouldn´t expect any less of the pro in you stephen! also all the tracks in this mix fit together tightly. great choices, terrific mix dj shagz!
thanks!

The world has been waiting for this!! Melancholy is a vital component in the music I listen to... got onto this 'cos of the Agoria - Les Violons Ivres (Super Mix) remix. Incredible. Also check out Kollektiv Trumstrasse for more melancholic tech-house flavours! Not heard mix yet but sure it'll be good. Thanks for the post!!!
You're welcome!
