2 dj mixes and a non-dj gig....

First, dj mixes! I've got two mixes here for you, one from the archives and the other of a more recent vintage...

Back in 2001 I played one of my biggest gigs ever, opening for Uberzone and The Crystal Method at the legendary Warehouse. Unfortunately, they've announced that the Warehouse (now Kool Hause) will be closing its doors in Jan 2015. So I pulled this mix out of ye old hard drive for a new airing out.

Stream it over at Mixcloud!

The second mix is my afro-inspired funky breaks and bootlegs set from the Huruma fundraiser I dj'd a couple months ago. Thanks to everyone who came out to that jam, we raised over $600 for AIDS Care volunteers working in sub-Saharan Africa!

Stream on Mixcloud (Currently #19 on the Afrobeat chart!)

On another tip, the choir I sing with will be presenting our Pop music concert next week! All the music is arranged by members of the choir and we're doing acapella covers of tracks from Pharell, Queen, No Doubt, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Zedd and more!

In particular, you'll get to hear my own arrangment of the theme song from the 80's sitcom, "As Long As We Got Each Other"!

We also have a special funky guests Yuka who will be playing a set for dancers and head nodders (and those who do both) after the show! AND we're also collecting donations for the Fort York Food Bank!

Choirs! Pop Music! Funk Band! Charity! We do it all. :)

Univox goes Pop w/ Yuka
June 11, 8pm (doors at 7:30)

Bassopoly, the DJ Shagz Birthday Jam @BASSLINE

Posted By: Shagz
Date:

It's a blustery, wet January out there, which of course means it's time to pull out the flannels and hibernate 'til it all goes away....I say "no" to this!

Instead, you should come out to my birthday dj dance party! (If you're in the Toronto area at least :)

Join me for my birthday jam, "Bassopoly", at Bassline Music Bar, 865 Bloor St W, on Fri, Jan 17th. Chris "Scotty Dog" Wright , "Race Car" Groovemixer and myself, the "Top Hat", will be doing a good ol' fashioned winter birthday throw down, spinning a mix of funky house, breaks, soul, nu disco, tech house and all points in between and beyond, sure to rock your Boardwalk! (for whatever reason, I settled on a Monopoly theme as my marketing angle...don't know why, but it made for a lot of good puns :)

Do not pass Go, do not collect $200, go directly to BASSLINE!
"Free Parking" (after 9pm ;)

Details: Bassopoly @ Bassline Music Bar
865 Bloor St W
Fri, Jan 17th, 9pm

Latest mix from the Univox Fundraiser @TOTA Lounge

Posted By: Shagz
Date:

Man, I've been doing a really bad job of promoting things through my own website these last several months. Part of the reason is 'cuz most of the gigs have been invite-only affairs, and for the public stuff I've been using my mailing list (put your email in the little box on the right there!) or my Facebook page.

Ugh, bad promoter!

Anyways, I recorded my set from my last gig at Tota Lounge, a fundraiser jam for Univox Choir where I was playing an opening set for fellow djs Mark Baker and dj Quy. Check it out below! A smoove groove affair with a bunch of tracks I don't usually get to play out. Lots of bosa-nova laced funky breaks, disco house bootlegs, and just a touch of pop so you can sing a long. :)

Streams: Soundcloud, Mixcloud
Downloads: High Quality, Medium Quality
